New Art Klick Design Plans
admin | September 25, 2008After 4 months of beta testing a good list of design changes has been created. This summer I hope to get two interns through the Summer of Code program - a graphic designer and a programmer to work on making some big improvements.
Elements I would like to add/improve on the Art Klick include:
- Redesign of the homepage to profile new members, popular and new artwork and prints, tertiary institute profiles, a new footer and header with links to the Art Klick Twitter, Facebook and YouTube profiles.
- Competition page for T-shirt design and artwork competitions
- Art Klick TV - Interviews with artists and collectors, event coverage, arty stuff
- Art Klick Shop - Selling Art Klick T-shirts, magazines and possibly art supplies
- Comments on artwork and profiles
- A forum (Community!)
- A whole redesign on the blog (currently it is just a Wordpress site) into articles and resources.
- Art Klick News - Act as an aggregator for major art news websites like TBI, NZLive, user submitted articles, events, jobs etc
- Possibly adding a rental/leasing service - buyers could request to rent an artwork instead of buy it - we could buy it from the artist and rent it out.
- A smoother checkout process
- Badges and mini gallery widgets
- An affiliates system
- A Facebook Hot or Not application
Prints
- Redesign of the prints section - heading toward the Redbubble.com functionality/interactiveness
- Expanding the prints internationally and increasing printing mediums into photo blocks, framed prints, photo books and calenders.
- Any member will be supplied with a base price which they can order from or add a percentage on top of to earn commission - ie Base Price + 40% means the cost of the print will increase by 40% from the base price and the member will receive it as a credit to their Art Klick account which they can then request to be paid into their New Zealand bank account.
- Event photographers will also be able upload all their photos of gigs, weddings etc and direct their clients to order directly from Art Klick - saving them from needing to take orders, payment, organize printing and shipping etc
Art Klick Tattoo
- After all the hype of The Million Dollar Leg Project I realized there is no website that profiles New Zealand tattooists and their artwork well. As tattooing is an artform a lot of people are passionate about (including myself) I want to create a section for tattooists to submit their artwork, a forum for designs and advice, a “rate my tat” feature and an ability for artists to be commissioned to design tattoo designs.
- I also hope to build the new design for The Million Dollar Leg into the site and re-launch it to publicise Art Klick going international.

Next week let’s yarn about your ideas and the technical systems behind each aspect of your plan, you can bounce your ideas off me, I can give you my opinions from a web designer / developers POV and we can discuss the aspects we might be able to team up for.
It all sounds really awesome! I especially love the idea
Kate | September 30, 2008 | 2:27 pmIt all sounds really awesome! I especially love the idea of Art Klick Tattoo - definitely a niche there that needs to be sorted out & would be a fabulous resource for someone like me who wants to make sure they find a PERFECT artist before committing to any ink!
PS - did you get your iStart mag? Haha! (We couldn’t resist that ‘promo code’
) Don’t forget to let us know your new address when you move!

what about templates for brochures/cards for your artists that auto populates with the details they have given you and maybe some pics of the artwork they choose which they can print off for when they have their work on display somewhere which means buyers could go and buy it or a print of the work or learn more about the atrist and their other works online via Artklick…
Would be good for the artist as it would help them sell more -i.e. i cant afford the $1000 original but would buy a $50 print, plus I might see something else of yours I like.
And would be good for you as drives traffic/sales via Artklick. Maybe you could also do a voucher type thing for prints from Artklick for the artists to hand out when they exhibit etc to give buyers an incentive to go online and check it out.
anyway

admin | October 4, 2008 | 5:00 pm@ Kate - Yeah I cant wait! I just had a meeting with the HOD at WelTec and he is keen to build the development of AK into their course starting next week! Working on a post about it now!
Got the mag and loved it - the mobile section was really interesting - I didn’t realise they had an affiliates deal.
Mint - in Welly now, just emailed you my new address
Thanks for the comment!
@Duncan - Awesome idea bro - really really good! I thought about having business cards that they could fill out online and order through the site last year but totally forgot about it.
Will get that sussed in the new design and development WelTec is working on - Post coming about it soon - huge break and really exciting about the potential!
